Elegant Script Authority Codex
The book has 2 sections, 4 rating each.
Pass Note. Cast as 1 full round action. Write on a surface, have that writing appear on another surface up to 1 meter away per Power rating. Lasts 1 minute.
Read Aloud. Cast as 1 full round action. An utterly neutral androgynous disembodied voice reads aloud the source of text indicated by the caster, for up to 10 minutes.
Render Illegible. Cast as 1 full round action. Up to 1 section of text is rendered illegible, +1 difficulty to read per caster Power rating. This lasts until dispelled. Multiple castings from one individual do not stack, but multiple individuals may cast and add their results together.
Render Legible. Cast as 1 full round action. Up to 1 section of text is rendered legible, -1 difficulty to read per caster Power rating. This lasts until dispelled. Multiple castings from one individual do not stack, but multiple individuals may cast and add their results together.
Clarity Script. Takes 1 full hour to cast. Subsequent study from a section of text for the rest of the day doubles the dice the text offers for learning experience from the book. (15 hours of study from a book granting +2d for experience, raises to +4d.)
Compress Knowledge. When scripting a section of text, the caster can accept the spell exhaustion each day when writing on the project. The maximum rating of a section raises from 5 to 6. This also adds capacity to spellbooks.
Create Authority Ink. Takes 1 full hour to cast, and 3 unsoakable bashing health levels as the magic mixes the caster’s blood and the aether to create a mystic substance that can be used as ink. The ink can be any color, but defaults to the sharpest, crispest black imaginable.
- Spells written in this ink are -1 difficulty to learn, -2 difficulty to cast from a source.
- Using this ink for any Script Authority spells requiring writing reduces the difficulty by 1.
- Using this ink for mundane purposes extends the life of the document by a century per Power rating, protecting the writing surface’s durability and clarity with a low-key enchantment. This does not protect it from any damage but age.
- Artistic efforts with this ink are -2 difficulty.
Translate. Takes 1 full minute to cast on self only. The character’s eyes cannot read a language or code that is not known, but the caster can sweep one source and write a translation. The character’s effective mastery of the language counts as though half the Power was the rating in the language read. Lasts for 10 minutes per casting.
Squirming Script. Takes 1 full minute to cast. Those reading the affected script automatically take ½ the caster’s Power as Stim Horror when reading the affected script. Those using mage sight take Stim Horror equal to the caster’s full Power rating.
Saylmecht Tattercloak was a famous dwarven adventurer. When in the Sunken Lands, he stole a spellbook and brought it to Stoneholt when he retired. He gave the book to Durgeddin, who gave it to his scholarly willing servant friend Arundil. Now Rothchilde has the book, salvaged from the Skybane Forge.
The book is bound in fine flexfang leather with brass trim and Broggotch’s personal sigil on the cover. It is one of a set. Lavishly illustrated, it is a show piece for a distinguished wizard’s library, not a cramped codex for practical everyday spellcasting. It is a volume of a series, a codex of spells of the Script Authority school.
